Breathe To Heal

The power of our breath can be underestimated in the ability it has to reduce our stress and anxiety. Our breath is our life source and is a resource for wellness that we can draw on at any given moment.

Recently I endured some circumstances where I felt sadness and grief. It got to the point where I broke down in tears and my nerves we shot.

Have you ever felt this way?

How do we cope in life when we are dealt with a series of trying experiences?

We are all going to have them at some point.

So what do we do?

Do we push them to the side and avoid feeling, internalizing our emotions?

Do we strive to be strong and power through?

The point is we are all human and we all have feelings.

It is perfectly ok to let go and feel them.

This past year I have been teaching and using a breathing technique called Resonant Breathing. Healthy adults breathing at six breaths per minute can bring the heart rate, blood pressure and respiration to work together. This is called cardiorespiratory coupling. The science behind it is that it will lower your stress levels in minutes.

When I went through this difficult time I pulled this tool out of my toolbelt and I would like to share it with you.

Step One:

Close your eyes.

Step Two:

Take a breath in at the rate of 5 to 6 seconds.

Step Three:

Exhale at the same rate.

Step Four

Do this for a cycle of six and repeat as many times as you need.

You will begin to feel a deep sense of calmness come over your body. When I did this it changed my state instantaneously.

I hope when you encounter difficult times, as we all do, you will give this a try.

You may be amazed how quickly it works.

My best to your health and wellness,

Yvette
